Our Aim, Goal and Principles

School's aim: To prepare the atmosphere to grow up Vefa high school students who depends on national and moral values and who are bilingual, successful and productive and can communicate with contemporary world and had upper class education.



The Short History Of Vefa High School

1872: Aiming to train students for the higher education, Vefa High School started its academic life by the name of ‘Dersaadet İdadi-i Mülkiye-i Şahane’ in the building which is used as Eminönü Public Education Centre today.

1881: The school moved to a three- storey mansion that belonged to the Interpreter Rüştü Pasha and was bought by Ministry of Education (Maarif Nezareti). I t continued its educational mission as the first political science preparatory school (mülkiye idadisi) of Istanbul which used Turkish as the educational language. Meanwhile it took the name ‘Vefa İdadisi’ because of its location.

1908: The name of the school was changed to ‘Vefa Sultanisi’.

1910: After the great fire in İstanbul, the classes were given to families who needed accommodation so the classes were moved to Saffet Pasha Mansion at Vezneciler.

1912: During the Balkan Wars many students and teachers went voluntarily to the frontlines but never returned. At that time the Interpreter Rüştü Pasha Mansion was used as the Red Crescent (Hilal-i Ahmer) Hospital.

1914: The classes were temporarily moved to the buildings of  Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School and Cağaloğlu Anatolian Vocational High School for Girls.

1917: The classes returned to the Interpreter Rüştü Pasha Mansion.

1924: The school took the name ‘Vefa High School’.

1925: High School section was closed  and it continued as ‘Vefa Secondary School’ in a building at Kadırga.

1933: The high school section was reopened by the insistent efforts of high school graduates and the classes were moved to their former building considering not to leave there once again.

1949: The Teacher Training School was closed so the building which is now used as the dormitory was turned over to Vefa High School.

1958: The first ‘Evening High School’ of  İstanbul was started under the control of Vefa High School. After 1976, this ‘Evening High School’ was respectively transferred to Pertevniyal, Şehremini, Vatan and Davutpaşa High Schools.

1959: A boarding school system was put into practice and male students started to stay in the dormitory. Female students also began boarding after 12th September 1980.

1971: The foundations of the main building were laid in 1968 and it started to be used.

1984: The Central Building, restored by Vefa Lions Club, started to be used.

1990-1991: Vefa Anatolian High School began providing an English Language education.

1995-1996: It reached the status of an ‘Anatolian High School’.

1999: After the earthquake on 17th August the Dormitory and the Central Building were damaged and later closed. With the financial support of İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) and Ministry of National Education (MEB) , the Dormitory (2000-2001) and the Central Building (2001-2002) were restored and reopened.

2001: On 6th November, the historical name ‘Vefa Lisesi’ was given to the school by the Ministry of National Education, but the status of the school wasn’t changed.

2006: Vefa Lisesi became one of only six schools in İstanbul that offer five years’ education including a one year preparatory class.

 


Different Applications
at Education

Class Family Union: The union consists of at least three people who are chosen at the beginning of the educational first term .Especially it contributes the solutions of the problems which occurs in the classroom. It Works with the school family union in an accord.

Teachers' Education: The school provides in service training opportunities for the teachers with the universities corporations at branches and at the level of pedagogic formation.

Guiding guardian of the students: It consists of activities which was given by the experts with the supports of the school family union and leadership service about “young and family relationship and teenagers problems, adolescence problems” for informing the guardian of the students.

The best success scholarship: The students who came first, second ,or third at success in lessons are given scholarship by Vefa unions.

Guardian's appreciation letter:
It is given to the parents whose children are thought to be a model because of their behaviours and their appearance at the end of the term.

Social aids: Books, clothes, school service, lunch and educational scholarship are given to the poor students by Vefa high school educational charity, Vefa associations, school family unions and some charitable people. Educational scholarship is given to twelve Vefa high school graduates and sixty Vefa high school students.
